Nippon Medical Research, Inc. (NMR), is Japanese pharmaceutical venture company funded by japanese venture capital companies.

The core business of NMR is the development of a bactericidal antibiotic against MRSA, but in the course of raising equity for its business, NMR has accumulated substantial know-how and contacts in the Japanese public and private venture capital markets, as well as the pharmaceucital industry and public and private research organisations.

1. Extremely poor scientific due diligence capabilities at the VC's
2. Previous success rate being poor, and project period typically too long, and
3. Limited opportunities available due to lack of attractive projects and limited exit options

New Biotechnology Seeds:

The Japanese government opened the doors of Japanese public institutions in 1998 to the industry by alowing institutes to establish patent and licensing organisations as a way of commercialising through licensing deals the technologies discovered.

We expect an enormous number of patents and technologies build-up in the forthcoming years, since they are now available without the concern of violation of the government employee act.
